      Completed in 1893, the stone mansion now known as Bishop’s Palace was originally built for the Gresham family before being purchased as the residence for Bishop Christopher E. Byrne. Today, the dramatic estate is open for tours to the public and owned by the Galveston Historical Foundation.

      The expansive East Beach is located at the far eastern end of the island and is known for hosting lively festivals and concerts.
