OVERVIEW
Join a hands-on cooking class at a modern museum and dine on your culinary creations for lunch. As an introduction to the types of spices and produce found in this part of Morocco, you will first visit Souk El Had, a massive marketplace that offers every imaginable ingredient essential to Moroccan cuisine. You will next stop at the Targent Museum, which is dedicated to the endemic argan tree and the women that traditionally produce its prized oil. Although the oil can be consumed – the flavor is distinctly nutty – it is more readily used in cosmetics as it is a superior moisturizer. During class, the chef will show you how to prepare tagine, a slow-cooked stew that contains many of the ingredients displayed in the souk. The stew is typically cooked in a clay pot with a cone-shaped lid that is also called a tagine. As you will discover, the dish is wonderfully flavorful.
