Although a castle has stood on the site of De Haar Castle since the late 1300s, the medieval-style version that stands today dates to 1912. Arguably the most extravagant castle in the Netherlands, it was used mostly as just a holiday retreat for the aristocratic and fabulously wealthy Van Zuylen family.
