OVERVIEW
Meander through three markets full of ingredients that reflect the local cuisine and culture as the markets will be bustling with activity. La Boqueria is arguably Barcelona’s most famous market as it opened in 1840 and has flourished ever since. As you wander about the stalls laden with every type of fruit, vegetable and delicacy imaginable, you can’t help but be caught up in the vibrancy of the setting. The fresh ingredients on display are used in traditional Catalan cuisine as are many of the items that you will see while browsing Santa Caterina Market. Although similar in concept, this newer market is considered an architectural treasure, as it features a massive, multi-colored roof shaped like cresting waves. The Sant Antoni Market is a late 19th-century gem that has been thoroughly refurbished to more efficiently present the goods inside. As in the other markets, feel free to converse with the vendors, who may entice you with free samples and bring some local currency to fully enjoy a variety of small bites and take-home great memories from your adventure!
