Explore the stunning Palau de la Musica (Palace of Music), another of Barcelona’s architectural gems. Built at the beginning of the 20th century in the Art Nouveau style, this masterpiece of creativity relies on the decorative arts – mosaic, stained glass, ironwork and glazed tiles – and exploits the use of natural light. The resulting scene is a riot of color and intricately detailed shapes, with a surprise around every corner. The main concert auditorium is dominated by an organ over the stage, and is topped by a skylight portraying the sun. The result is so distinctive that it has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Then step back several centuries to stroll the narrow streets of the old Quarter along with your guide. One of the city’s most charming and unique neighborhoods of the city, this area was originally known as the Quarter of Mar, due to its proximity to the sea, and nowadays has reconverted in what is often described as the “the most chic” or artistic spot within the city’s Old Quarter. Home to the beautiful gothic Church of Santa Maria del Mar, dated back to the 12th century, in a time when Barcelona grew out of its ancient Roman protection walls and gave birth to this unique maze of street.
