OVERVIEW

Watch a mesmerizing drumming performance and a traditional short play in the first and only professional theatre in Gambia. Although Gambia has a long rich heritage of music and dance, it wasn’t until 2011 that the Ebunjan Theatre opened to educate and entertain the public through the arts. As you will discover, the venue is well-suited for a variety of shows as every seat offers an excellent view of the stage. As a prelude, you will watch a drumming performance, most likely on djembes, a type of drum typically made from a single tree trunk topped with a tightly stretched goat skin. The dramatic play that follows may have music as well. The subject matter will be emotionally moving and provide great insight into the culture and traditions of Gambia.
