OVERVIEW

Enjoy a leisurely walk through several historical plazas in Old Town as an appetizer of sorts to a tasting of tapas at local gastronomic venue. Considered the oldest continually inhabited city in Europe, Cadiz exudes history and its plazas often commemorate key landmarks and influential Spaniards. You will see a monument to Cadiz-born, three-time prime minister Segismundo Moret in San Juan de Dios Square while Cathedral Square features a golden-domed church that took more than a century to complete. The leafy Plaza de las Flores is named for the original flower market that once occupied that space, and flower stalls are still abundant. Walking should whet your appetite for the tapas sampling that will follow at a local food favorite venue. The exact tapas will depend on what ingredients are freshest, in season and most flavorful. Chances are, seafood will be prominently featured as that is a Cadiz specialty.
