OVERVIEW

Explore landmarks from various time periods that show how Old Town has evolved architecturally and culturally. Although the Phoenicians founded Cadiz in the 12th century B.C., many others influenced the city’s appearance, including the Romans and Moors. As you walk along the cobbled streets in the ancient district – a delightful jumble of baroque and neoclassical architecture – you will come upon attractions such as Local square and Cadiz Cathedral, which replaced an earlier cathedral that was destroyed when the city was sacked in 1596. Later on, you will walk through El Pópulo Quarter, a small neighborhood known as an architectural icon. The exploration continues along La Caleta Beach, a picturesque cove steeped in historical significance, where Cádiz's maritime history unfolds against the backdrop of its role as a major port during the Age of Exploration. The journey evolves with a scenic drive around the city, offering amazing views and an appreciation of Cádiz's unique urban landscape. Meander along coastal roads to witness the stunning waterfront and architectural diversity that characterize this captivating city. With each step, "How was it built, Cadiz Edition" unveils the layers of history and development that have shaped Cádiz into the remarkable city it is today.
