Visit some of the most visually arresting and historical attractions in and around Old Town and come away with a greater understanding of Corfu. UNESCO declared the Old Town a World Heritage site for its preserved fortifications and Venetian architecture. Be sure to notice the Venetian symbol on the arched entrance to the 15th-century Old Fortress and the beautiful arched stone colonnade that runs along Liston Boulevard. The 19th-century villa Mon Repos – which translates to “My Rest” – is another architectural treasure. It was originally built as a summer residence for the British governors and today houses a museum with historical objects that reveal intriguing aspects of the lives of the ancient Corfiots. You will also browse the whitewashed Holy Monastery of Vlarcherna, the only building on an islet that a footbridge now connects to the mainland. It is a beautiful and serene setting that offers panoramic views in every direction.
