OVERVIEW
This tour is intended for guests who have limited mobility, rely on a cane or walker, or for guests’ companions.
View rare antiquities in the world’s first public museum and behold other Roman landmarks such as the Pantheon, the best-preserved monument of ancient Rome. Established in 1471, the Capitoline Museum holds an extraordinary collection of artifacts, paintings and statuary such as the famed bronze sculpture of a she-wolf nursing Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome. Other masterpieces include Michelangelo’s statue of Marcus Aurelius and priceless works by Caravaggio and Rubens. The Pantheon is another must-see. Renowned for the oculus at the center of its dome, this monument was begun in the 1st-century B.C. but not completed for more than a century as the emperor Hadrian had it rebuilt after a fire. You will also spend free time in Piazza Navona, an elongated oval square built on the site of a 1st-century stadium. The architecture is Baroque in design and a Bernini fountain with an Egyptian obelisk stands at its center.
