OVERVIEW

See the 17th-century royal residence Rosenborg Castle and iconic waterfront attractions, which you might discuss while enjoying a traditional Danish lunch. You will first stop at the Little Mermaid statue that Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairytale inspired. The author lived much of his adult life in the Nyhavn district, which is known for the rows of colorful and historical townhouses that line the canals. You will pass them on the way to Rosenborg, an opulent castle that was the former summer retreat for Denmark’s royal family. While strolling the castle grounds, which were laid out in the early 1600s, you may see a statue of Andersen in the leafy King’s Garden. A short but wonderfully scenic walk will bring you to the restaurant Aamanns Replik. The lunch menu for your lunch includes a choice of smørrebrøds – open-faced rye bread sandwiches – one of them topped with cold smoked salmon, the other a vegetarian offering.
