OVERVIEW
Cruise the meandering Sigatoka River in a powerful jet boat to a waterfront village where you will become immersed in daily life. The river flows through a fertile agricultural valley known as Fiji’s “salad bowl,” so the scenery along the way will be extraordinarily lush. Upon reaching the village, you will be warmly welcomed and introduced to some of the more traditional activities, which will provide great insight into the culture. You will watch an interpretive dance that will likely be a meke performance that conveys the island’s history, legends and stories in a fascinating way. You will also see how kava – the national drink of Fiji – is made from a pulverized pepper root. During the kava ceremony, you will sit in a circle as the light-brown drink is prepared in a communal wooden bowl and served. Even your parting will be ceremonial as the villagers will perform a farewell song.
