OVERVIEW
Enjoy a leisurely walk along relatively level ground to Bóndavarða, a rocky outcropping overlooking the sea that offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The adventure will begin right at the pier as you follow the guide through Djupivogur, a small village near the mouth of the Berufjörur fjord. Djupivogur is the only place in Iceland that holds a Cittaslow designation, meaning that it focuses on authentic, sustainable experiences rather than mass tourism. In keeping with that mindset, you will walk at a casual pace with no real purpose other than enjoying the natural beauty. The views will be especially spectacular from the cairn at Bóndavarða, which was built as a lookout after the village was plundered in 1627. The pyramid-shaped mountain in the distance is Búlandstindur, a peak said to have mystical powers. You will also stop at a bird-watching hut, where you will likely spot a variety of seabirds.
