Gain an appreciation for local Icelandic specialties through tastings at three venues, each one a unique setting. Upon arriving at the only seafood store in Isafjordur, you will meet owner Kári Þór Jóhannsson, who will show you how his fish are taken directly from the boats and prepared for sale. The day’s catch usually includes cod, halibut, haddock and herring, at least one of which will be offered as sushi. Isafjordur also has just one microbrewery – Dokkan Brugghús, where you will sample a trio of beers made with local ingredients. The brewery uses artesian mountain spring water from the Westfjords that has been naturally filtered through ancient volcanic lava, which imparts a unique taste to every beer. Afterwards, you will be served a bowl of seafood soup at Tjöruhúsið, a family-owned restaurant that occupies one of the oldest buildings in Isafjordur. The soup’s ingredients change daily depending on the fresh catch.
