OVERVIEW

Behold a downtown castle so iconic that it has become a symbol of the city and then mingle with the locals in two wonderfully bustling shopping districts. The setting of Osaka Castle couldn’t be more serene as it stands at the edge of a urban park with more than 1,200 trees, the majority of them ornamental cherry blossoms and apricots. As you meander through the grounds, take note of the massive wall that surrounds the castle. Its stones were supposedly carried there from all over Japan to display loyalty to hegemon Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who built Osaka Castle. The atmosphere will become noticeably more energetic in Dotonbori, an entertainment district with countless stores and restaurants. The guide will point out and describe some of the more flamboyant sights – including the massive 3-D billboards – after which you will be free to independently explore Dotonbori and neighboring Shinsaibashi, another lively shopping arcade that seems to go on forever.

Note: This tour includes approximately 2.5 miles of walking at a steady pace, part of which will be on cobblestone and uneven surfaces. Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi are popular, high-traffic areas and can be crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. Tour sensitive to weather conditions (Rain, wind, and sun). The order and times of the sites visited may vary due to traffic and operational reasons. The tour is not recommended for guests on wheelchairs, scooters or with any limited mobility. Guests who miss the return transportation will be responsible for getting back to the ship. Active participation from guests is required. This tour includes external visits only. Entrances to sites, venues are not included unless otherwise stated. Guests should wear comfortable shoes, sunglasses, and comfortable clothing. Money exchange machines available at ports. Please make sure to have some Japanese Yen for purchasing as some food stalls & some shops accept cash only. Maximum age to participate is 75 years of age and maximum weight is 350 lbs. Waiver must be signed.
