OVERVIEW
Wander through a wonderfully atmospheric medieval section of Tunis and a beautiful whitewashed town nearby that perches on a promontory overlooking the sea. UNESCO declared the Medina of Tunis a World Heritage site for its hundreds of historic monuments, which include mosques, mansions and a royal mausoleum. Seeing these fabulous buildings, mostly from the 12th through 16th centuries, will leave you with a great sense of the town’s fabulous wealth and power during that time period. The neighboring town of Sidi Bou Said is also known for its architecture, which is predominately painted white and blue. Although you must walk uphill to reach the town center, it will be well worth the effort. The views of the sea are absolutely stunning. During free time, you might shop for ceramics, relax at a clifftop café or simply stroll the photogenic streets. The ambiance couldn’t be more laid-back and inviting.
