Amakhala Private Game Reserve

OVERVIEW

Ride through the sprawling Amakhala Game Reserve in an open-top safari-style vehicle that offers uninterrupted views of some of Africa’s most iconic animals. During the three hours or so that you travel through the reserve’s various biomes, you may spot the Big Five – lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos and Cape buffaloes – and many smaller, more humble creatures such as birds and even insects. The guide will describe each animal’s characteristics and behavior, which will give you great insight into the animal’s vital role in the natural world. You might see giraffes walking by so close that you can almost touch them, wildebeests grazing in the pastureland and rare black rhinos, a critically endangered animal that was once on the brink of extinction. A former sheep and cattle ranch, the game reserve is now a fine example of rewilding, as native flora and fauna have been reintroduced to create a more balanced biodiverse habitat.
