OVERVIEW
Discover the lost world of the aboriginal Guanches that first inhabited the Canary Islands as seen through the eyes of your archaeologist guide. During a private off-hours visit to the Museo Canario archaeological museum, you will see a collection of prehistoric artifacts, mummies and skeletons that lend insight into the lives of the Guanches. You will delve even deeper into their primitive Neolithic culture at La Fortaleza Museum as you will have exclusive access to the archives storage room that contains new materials about these ancient people that inhabited the islands until the Castilians conquered them in 1496. While learning about the diet of the Guanches, you will sample foods made with ancestral ingredients such as figs and a roasted grain flour known as gofio. The archaeologist will then lead you through an excavated Guanches settlement with the island’s oldest sanctuary and caves for living and funerary. It will be an eye-opening experience.
