OVERVIEW

Enjoy panoramic views of the Svalbard archipelago’s stunning natural beauty while cruising on a catamaran powered by a high-tech hybrid engine. The MS Bard catamaran will initially head into the lengthy Isforden fjord using the diesel engine to power through the tidal seas. Once you reach the more sheltered Billeforden fjord, the captain will likely switch to the electric engine, which is much quieter and environmentally friendly. Although you will pass a few manmade sites such as the abandoned gypsum mine at Skansbukta, this fjord is known more for its gorgeous natural setting. Majestic mountains with sheer cliffs flank both coasts and the ancient Nordenskiöld Glacier looms in the background. Marine life, land animals and seabirds are especially abundant. You may spot walruses hauling their massive bodies – which typically weigh more than a ton – out of the water and Arctic foxes along the shore eagerly hunting for goose eggs.

• Dress in weather-appropriate clothing. Wear warm, layered clothing.
• Flat, sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

Need to Know:

Note: This tour is primarily panoramic in nature. It is available to guests who utilize a collapsible wheelchair, can make their way on and off the coach and have a companion to assist them. Most electric wheelchairs/scooters will also possible, however there may be limits to the size. They also need to be able to travel over the floating dock, where there are some areas that are not 100% flat, for example crossing lines. These are covered with wheelchair-friendly covers but may be difficult for the heavier chairs.
