OVERVIEW
Settle in for a wonderfully scenic ride in an open-air four-wheel wagon that huskies will pull along a beautiful stretch of coastline on the outskirts of Longyearbyen. Before setting off, you can help the musher harness the team of Alaska huskies, a powerful and athletic Nordic breed known for its extraordinary endurance and affectionate nature. As you will discover, they love to run and are trained from the time they are puppies to work as a unified team. While following a mostly coastal route, the musher will describe the history and topography of the Svalvard archipelago. During stops to water the dogs, you will enjoy a different perspective of the Arctic wilderness, which is extensive as Longyearbyen is the world’s northernmost town with a population of more than 1,000. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as seals, Svalbard reindeer and white Svalbard rock ptarmigans, the only bird that lives there year-round.
