OVERVIEW

Walk through Oslo with an author that is an authority on Nazi Germany’s occupation of the capital city during World War II and see landmarks that played pivotal roles in those tragic and uncertain times. While standing in the square outside the Royal Palace, you will hear how King Haakon and the royal family went into exile shortly before the Germans invaded in April 1940. You will see a statue of the king in the June 7 Square, which commemorates his return from exile after Norway was liberated in May 1945. The author will provide a unique insider’s perspective of those events and others and recount poignant stories about the bravery and resilience of the citizens that openly and secretly defied the Nazis. You will also pause at the University of Oslo, which the Nazis closed, but not before arresting more than 1,200 students, half of whom were sent to concentration camps for SS military training.
