OVERVIEW
Observe the bountiful wildlife while cruising the Tarcoles River in an open-air boat and see a different side of nature while strolling through a butterfly garden. Mangroves line much of the riverbank, providing a safe haven for the animals, especially wading birds such as herons and storks. You may see hummingbirds flitting about, vireos perched on the intertwined mangrove branches and endangered scarlet macaws. To help identify the species, you will receive a bird guide. You can also expect to pass crocodiles sunning along the shore as the Tarcoles River is home one of the largest colonies of crocodiles in this part of Costa Rica. For an even closer look at the indigenous species, you will walk through the butterfly garden at El Jardín. You will likely spot a number of Blue Morphos, a vivid iridescent blue butterfly with a wingspan of up to eight inches. Afterwards, fresh tropical fruits will be served.
