A panoramic tour of the city showcases its most beautiful monuments: Teatro Politeama, Teatro Massimo, The Quattro Canti and Piazza Pretoria. Explore the grim, yet fascinating Catacombs of the Capuchin Friars. A truly unique experience, it displays more than 8,000 mummified citizens of Palermo; some dating back over 500 years and still dressed in their best. Visit The Oratory of Santa Cita, famous for the magnificently detailed stucco work by Giacomo Serpotta. A short walk from here is another legacy of artistic genius, the Oratory of the Rosario di San Domenico. The interior of this small chapel, a virtual art gallery, is also regarded as a masterpiece due to its beautiful stucco work executed by Giacomo Serpotta and paintings by Pietro Novelli Giacomo Lo Verde, Matthias Stomer and Luca Giordano.
Need to Know:
Note: As tour visits religious sites, please dress appropriately. No bare shoulders or shorts are allowed. There is approximately 2 hours of walking, some over cobblestone streets, numerous steps (approximately 40) and about ten minutes of continuous uphill walking. Tour is not recommended for guests suffering from asthma or claustrophobia, due to the confined space and musty conditions in the catacombs.
