Discover how sustainable agricultural practices have revitalized the area’s coffee production by visiting an ecolodge that has overcome the challenges that once plagued the industry. Coffee has been grown in the Dominican Republic for centuries, but in the 1980s insect pests such as berry borers began to devastate the crop. You’ll observe how coffee is now grown and processed using methods that better protect the plants like the berry borer trap baited that lures insect into it. Every phase of production from planting, harvesting, roasting the coffee beans to cupping will be covered. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to a local reforestation also with the local sustainability as part of the incomes generated from this activity goes to the Funds of Local Restorations Coffee Farmers project . A traditional typical lunch of rice, beans and chicken stew and salad will then be served. After the coffee experience on the way back to pier, stop by Puerto Plata Historical Centre for a panoramic view and colorful photo time.
