OVERVIEW

Enjoy an immensely scenic drive along the Albanian Riviera with stops to explore two gorgeous destinations. The rocky coastline couldn’t be more dramatic or visually appealing as you will pass remote beaches, horseshoe-shaped bays and craggy mountains, much of which is undeveloped. The villages along the way are rather traditional, including Himara, a once-sleepy fishing village that has become a popular resort. Even so, it remains laid-back. Besides enjoying lunch there, you might walk the seaside promenade and browse the shops while meandering through Old Town. Himara is known for its polyphonic or multi-voiced folk singing, which UNESCO recognized as a masterpiece of Intangible World Heritage. You will also stop at Porto Palermo Castle on an island just south of Himara. Although it is disputed whether Albanian ruler Ali Pasha or the Venetians built the castle, it is undeniably a magnificent fortress to explore. The views are equally stunning.
