Venture into the northern reaches of La Palma and explore highlights that include a black-sand beach, a revealing ethnographic museum and a traditional goat farm.
After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a wonderfully scenic drive to Playa de los Nogales, where you will pause for photos of the black volcanic beach and spectacular cliffs that serve as a dramatic backdrop. Nearby, you will find the charming village of Puntallana, a gem on the sunny side of the island.
While visiting the village’s ethnographic museum, you will gain a general understanding of the regional culture by browsing exhibits displaying handicrafts, tools and mannequins costumed in traditional clothing. Even the building is historically and culturally important, as it dates from the 17th-century colonial period.
As you will discover at a nearby goat farm, Puntallana is also known for its cheese, a variety made with raw whole milk from native Palmera goats. It is a fascinating process that results in a revered white cheese with a buttery texture and a slightly smoky aroma. You will sample the cheese as a tapa paired with a glass of locally produced wine.
Continuing on, you will watch a unique demonstration of a folk-sport that originated as a means for shepherds to safely cross dangerous ravines. You will be amazed as the agile athletes leap across great distances using only long wooden poles.
