OVERVIEW
Enjoy an ambling guided walk through Split that presents a historical perspective of the city and stroll the popular Riva promenade on your own. The route will begin at the bronze statue of Gregory the Nin, a 10th-century bishop that refused the pope’s demand to hold church services in Latin, rather than Croatian. He remains a great symbol of national pride. Not far away, you will come upon the Golden Gate, the main entry that Roman emperor Diocletian traveled through to reach his 4th-century palace complex. The niches in the façade of the gate once held sculptures of Diocletian and several governors of the Roman Empire. The Riva will offer a look at contemporary life in Split. Lined with palms and a collection of fine stores and restaurants, the promenade has revitalized the waterfront district. Enough free time will be allotted for you to shop and dine on your own.

Need to Know:
Note: Guests will enjoy free time at the Riva promenade, outside the old town, where they could shop. The bus schedule mostly involves the transfer from the port to the old town and back. In this tour, guests will have time to enjoy independently, allowing them to craft their own itinerary upon our guide’s suggestions and choose the activities they wish to experience in Split. Visits to the sites will be external. Tour includes long periods of walking over mainly uneven surfaces and cobblestones. The tour is not recommended for guests who utilize a wheelchair, scooter, or who have any walking limitations. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. The order of sites visited may vary. Wear comfortable shoes, sunglasses, and comfortable clothing. Guests who go ashore do so with the understanding that they will be mixing with members of the general public. Guests who miss the return transportation will be responsible for getting back to the ship. The tour is sensitive to weather conditions (rain, wind, and sun).
