Enjoy the highlights of Tangier and visit the beautiful resort town of Asilah on the Atlantic Coast. A short drive takes you to the entrance of the medina, where you’ll enjoy a comprehensive walk through one of Tangier’s most historic and architecturally interesting areas, the Kasbah and its museum, before moving on to the Grand Souk.
The Kasbah area is spread across the highest point of the medina, and your guide leads you on an uphill walk while pointing out some of the highlights. Once at the top, you’ll find yourself in an area hardly changed since Roman times. The Kasbah was the traditional residence of the sultan and his harem, and is now one of the most fashionable residential areas of Tangier and a much quieter quarter than other areas of the city. Visit the Kasbah Museum, newly renovated, it focuses on the history of the area - enjoy the traditional courtyard, various displays and the large mosaic works of art on display. Winding your way back down the hill, your guide leads you into the colorful and bustling Grand Souk. It is the center of things and the link between the medina and the new city.
A scenic drive takes you to Cap Spartel a promontory projecting into the waters where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. You’ll stop here for a unique photo opportunity and then continue the town of Asilah. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before exploring this beautiful place. Asilah was first populated by the Phoenicians who used it as trading port, then by the Portuguese, and in 1692, the city was liberated and returned to Morocco. Today, it’s one of the most popular seaside resorts on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, especially during the summer. Drive back to Tangier and stop for shopping before returning to your ship.
