OVERVIEW
Ride the ferry to Virgin Gorda – the island due east of Tortola – where you will spend hours relaxing on the pristine beach that rims Savannah Bay. As you cruise across Sir Francis Drake Channel, which is named for the legendary English sea captain who first sailed to the New World in 1563, the tropical views will be spectacular in every direction. More natural beauty awaits you on the drive to Savannah Bay, whose beach is usually uncrowded as it can only be reached by sea or by dirt road. It should be easy to find your own private slice of paradise where you can stretch out and bask in the sun without a care in the world. The waters are crystal-clear and ideal for swimming. Fruit punch, cheese and Johnny cake – a sweet-and-salty fried cornbread that is a staple in the British Virgin Islands – will be served as a snack.
