OVERVIEW
Snorkel the crystal-clear waters of the marine park off Wasini Island and explore the nearby mainland village of Shimoni that lies directly across the bay. After a wonderfully scenic drive along Kenya’s southeastern coast, you will board a wooden dhow – a traditional Swahili boat – and sail to the Wasini Kisite Marine Park. Dolphins are often seen frolicking in the waters and leaping acrobatically in the air. The marine life below the surface is just as abundant as the pristine coral reefs attract tropical fish of every imaginable species and hue. You can expect to see neon-colored parrotfish, wrasses, snappers, groupers and even hawksbill and green turtles. A lunch of traditional Swahili cuisine awaits you in Shimoni, after which you will enjoy free time and visit the infamous slave caves. As recently as the late 19th century, slaves were held in these seaside grottoes before being shipped to the Middle East.
