6 Activities for a Perfect Day in Nassau
Nassau, with its gorgeous turquoise waters, bright blue skies, and friendly locals is one of the most popular port stops on a Bahamas cruise. Whether you are interested in sightseeing, partying or shopping, Nassau offers something for everyone. As you'll only have about eight hours or so in port, you'll want to make the most of your day to this lively tropical city. Here is the perfect itinerary for your day in paradise.
1. Junkanoo Beach
Junkanoo Beach is a favorite local hangout. This beautiful public beach is located within an easy walk from the cruise port dock. It has excellent fine-white sand and plenty of tropical palm trees. This beach is also one of the few public beaches that have changing rooms and free Wi-Fi. Just make sure that you bring a towel and plenty of sunscreen.
2. Arawak Cay
Your stomach will no doubt be growling after swimming and relaxing in the sun at Junkanoo. Arawak Cay is the perfect place to enjoy some authentic tropical food during your Bahamas cruise. This area has a variety of colorful Bahaman huts set up that serve an array of fresh seafood. Try a conch salad or an ice-cold beverage served with a local flair.
3. Ardastra Gardens & Zoo
Grab a taxi and head to Ardastra Gardens & Zoo. If you arrive by 10:30 A.M, you can experience the first flamingo show of the day. Watch the antics of these beautiful creatures and hear an excellent narration of their story. There are more than four acres of gardens for you to explore at Ardastra. You can see more than 200 birds, rare tropical plants, and lush vegetation.
4. Louis & Steen's New Orleans Coffeehouse
After your visit to Ardastra, enjoy an afternoon espresso at Louis & Steen's New Orleans Coffeehouse. This brightly colored coffee shop is the very first authentic Cajun and Creole-inspired coffeehouse in the Bahamas. Sit on the front porch, and you'll get a "million dollar view" of the azure sea. The coffeehouse offers free wifi so you can connect with family and friends back home while you are relaxing by the sea.
5. Pirates of Nassau Museum
As you head back to the ship, stop at the Pirates of Nassau Museum if you have time. Most people are not aware, but Nassau had a sizeable pirate population several centuries ago. This interactive museum gives you an unbridled look into Nassau pirate history. This museum is especially fun for younger cruisers.
6. Señor Frogs
Finish your visit to Nassau at this famous tourist destination. Sit back and enjoy a Cadillac Margarita or Frogs Rum a Rita or two. Toast your fun day in the Bahamas with your friends or family. Or, sing, dance and have fun with other cruisers before the ship sets sail.
No matter what you decide to do in Nassau, you'll undoubtedly fall in love with the lively town. If you are ready to start your adventure, then explore our Nassau cruises today.
